Psychokinesis is basically mind control. It is a condition in which the environment is manipulated by mere thought. The theory has been the subject of hot debate and experimentation for many years. The basic idea of psychokinesis is the ability to manipulate matter by thought alone and no other physical force or means. An example would be bending a metal spoon without touching it.

Uri Geller was once the poster child of psychokinesis. it was believed that he could bend spoons with the power of his mind. He was eventually discredited but his fame, though short lived, helped propel the idea of psychokinesis into the mainstream.

Psychokinesis comes into play in the paranormal field for several reasons. It is theorized that some paranormal activity may be caused by people rather than spirits. Most research into this phenomenon seems to point to a specific demographic. Paranormal researchers look for young women, specifically teenagers entering or experiencing puberty, involved in the cases of paranormal activity such as poltergeist activity. The idea is that these young women are a heightened emotional and hormonal flux which may lend the uncontrolled, and often unaware, ability to interact with their environments using powers of the mind.

There really is no proof of this ability and skeptics often laugh at the notion of psychokinesis. Governments and military programs have explored the possibility of psychokinesis with mixed results. Psychokinesis is an area of study that will require much more research before a definitely conclusion can be drawn.

In cases of poltergeist activity or even malevolent hauntings, it is wise to take into account the presence of a disturbed child or a teenage in the environment in which the research is conducted. Experiment by removing the child from the environment to see if the activity follows the child or teen. Account for any psychological issues, preferably diagnosed by a licensed psychologist. While little is understood or even available for experimentation, it proves useful to consider the possibility when dealing with these types of cases.
